Newcastle-based Green St Property is one of the leading real estate sales and property management agencies within the local market. Dynamic husband and wife duo Peter and Amanda Aloupis have built a standout brand based on inclusive and nurturing family values.

With 400 residential and commercial properties under management and a busy sales division, the Green St Property team of 13 based in Newcastle’s CBD covers a 15km radius of the thriving regional city.

Born and bred in Newcastle, CEO and Licensee in charge Peter Aloupis started in the property industry as a ‘sign boy’ when he was only 19-years-old. After gaining valuable real estate and development experience, he established his own successful agency, Solid Property. After 15 successful years, Peter rebranded the agency to Green St Property in 2016.

Amanda Aloupis joined the agency more than 10 years ago as Chief Operating Officer.

“Amanda was the manager of her parents’ podiatry practice, one of the largest in Australia at that time, and I’d wanted to poach her for a while,” Peter laughed. “When her father retired, she finally agreed, and we haven’t looked back.”

Amanda added: “I’d worked with my parents for 10 years, they’d worked with each other for nearly 25 years, and Peter’s mum was also a huge support to him during his early career, so I knew we’d make a great team. We trust one another to get on with our jobs, but we also achieve great things together. We’ve got each other's backs.”

Nurture, growth and success

Five years ago, Peter and Amanda embarked on a rebranding journey, and the result was the new company name – Green St Property.

“I've been in the business a long time now, and we realised that we’re all about finding, nurturing, growing and protecting the cycle of real estate life,” Peter explained.

Peter and Amanda Aloupis of Newcastle-based Green Street Property have built a standout brand based on inclusive and nurturing family values.

“In real estate, you constantly need to nurture your clients and this is what we do – we nurture every relationship. For me, that’s why we’re so successful. Nowadays, all agencies have similar systems and processes, but if clients aren’t on board and trust you, you can’t do the best job for them. So quality client service is paramount.

“Working in a smaller community, we understand the importance of referrals. I’ve enjoyed working with some clients for 20 years and now their children and, in some cases, their grandchildren. It’s very rewarding.”

“In a nutshell, for us, real estate is not just a transaction,” Amanda added. “It’s about helping buyers, owners and investors to find, nurture, grow and protect their investments and, at the same time, add real value.”

Community support

Not surprisingly, the Green St Property team is heavily involved with the local community and everyone is encouraged to give back when they can.

“Our company motto is: ‘A place for everyone’,” Amanda said. “This reflects our desire to help groups within our local community and our agency acts as a vehicle to make this possible.”

Green St Property is proud to support Soul Café, a local charity group focused on providing meals and support to those experiencing homelessness, drug or alcohol addiction, crime or violence, poverty, health concerns and accommodation needs.

“Each year, Soul Café runs an initiative called ‘Sleepout for Soul’, where we sleep outside to raise funds and provide a bit of perspective on the harsh realities some in our community endure daily.

“We also regularly participate in the Mark Hughes Foundation’s ‘Beanie for Brain Cancer’ charity drive. Our entire team purchases official charity beanies to support the foundation and promotes the initiative through social channels to encourage others to participate.

“And this year, we’re also a major sponsor for the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, as this is another cause close to our hearts.”

As a company, Green St Property also sources products and services from as many local businesses as it can, including everything from print services and marketing collateral to event catering.

“We love supporting the efforts of other locals, rather than the major commercial chains that may dominate the market, even if they do offer a better price,” Amanda said.

Looking to the future

So what does the future hold for Green St Property?

As a regional city, the property market is booming in Newcastle primarily due to the pandemic and Sydneysiders, in particular, looking for a sea change.

“Stock levels are low and prices are high – they’re growing and growing,” Peter said. “We're facing a massive influx of buyers from the Sydney market.

“During the recent lockdown, people were buying houses at auction, sight unseen. The technology is now there to make this happen, but we've never seen anything like it. We’ll be expanding our sales team to meet this demand and further predicted growth in the short term.”

“Even though we’re expanding, we’re not aiming to be number one,” Amanda said. “Instead, we’re aiming to earn the most positive reputation in the industry. We’re a good, honest and cohesive team doing what is right for our clients and us. And we want to continue focusing on that.

Peter added: “The industry’s great. It’s evolved, improved and innovated over the years, but we want to see the ethics also evolve, because it's tough to see some agencies still not doing the right thing. So, we need to iron this out once and for all.”
