Strata Reforms Expert Panel

The world of strata is about to undergo the most significant legislative reform ever!

These reforms have taken five years of consultation with over 3,000 submissions to government made by all of the various stakeholders – including several from REINSW.
Now the consultation and lobbying is over, and it’s time to implement the changes. There are over 90 changes starting on 30th November 2016, and more on 1st July 2017.

  • How confident are you that you are across all of the changes?
  • Would you like the opportunity to ask questions of some industry experts about some of the more complicated parts of the reforms?
  • Would you like to hear how other strata managers and property managers are approaching “the big day”?
  • Perhaps you’ve got everything covered, but would like to just do a sense-check of how you’re doing in your preparations?

REINSW has assembled a panel of strata experts that will be presenting and discussing the main changes, and answering questions from the floor. You will come away with a keen understanding of the new strata landscape based on the reforms that have been implemented, confident that you have the latest and best information, with all of your questions answered.

The panel consists of:

  • Gary Adamson, Managing Director of Strata Management Services NSW, Chair of REINSW’s Strata Management interest group, and a Chartered Accountant
  • Leisha de Aboitiz, Strata Specialist Partner at Massons law firm
  • A Senior Manager from NSW Fair Trading involved in developing the new strata legislation
  • Tim McKibbin, REINSW CEO, property lawyer and accountant.

All of the main changes will be covered including:

  • Strata committee – eligibility, financial interest
  • Meetings – prescribed matters for AGMs, quorum, voting, tenants’ involvement
  • Levies – adequacy, compensation, collection of unpaid levies
  • Strata managing agents – appointment, commissions
  • Maintenance and common property – owners corporation powers, deferring repairs
  • Renovations – cosmetic and minor
  • By-laws – new model by-laws, number of residents, pets, smoke
  • Building defects – developer obligations, independent inspections

The session will be held on Wednesday 2nd November in Sydney CBD from 8.30am to 11.30am and attract nine CPD points. To register please click on the link below.
